Comment from Farouk-san:

The presentation explores Nigeria’s food systems, focusing on their cultural, economic, and policy dimensions. It examines how indigenous crops, local markets, and food culture play critical roles in shaping Nigeria’s identity and ensuring food security. The challenges and opportunities presented by modernization are discussed, including the balance between preserving traditional practices and adapting to global influences. Using Lagos State as a case study, the presentation highlights the impact of urbanization on food accessibility, consumer behavior, and nutritional trends. Through relatable examples like the “Jollof Rice War,” the presentation connects food culture to national pride while emphasizing the importance of food literacy and awareness. It concludes with actionable recommendations to support local agriculture, promote sustainable food practices, and foster collaboration for a resilient and equitable food system.
